Lemondes Congratulates NYS Girls Wrestling

Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette) congratulated student athletes at the first ever New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls’ State Wrestling Invitational Tournament, which was held on Jan. 27, 2023, at the SRC Arena on the Onondaga County Community College Campus in Syracuse.

“It’s wonderful to see the hard work of student athletes pay off, but it’s particularly impressive because these young women are continuing to break barriers and make history,” said Lemondes. “It’s an honor to support their efforts, and as a wrestling parent myself, I know how proud their families must be of them. Congratulations to all the young women who participated in this event and have worked so hard to make this sport happen in our state.”

New York is the 37th state in the nation to host a recognized girls state high school wrestling tournament as the sport has gained popularity. NYSPHSAA has also developed a committee for the sport as of July 2022. To learn more, please go to https://nysphsaa.org/sports/girlswrestling.
