Giglio Reminds Families to Shop Tax Free Starting Monday

State Waives 4 Percent Sales Tax on Clothing/Shoes

Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) today reminded Southern Tier residents they can shop free from state sales taxes for clothing and footwear costing less than $110 per item starting Monday, January 30 through Sunday, February 5.

“This sales tax-free week is a great chance for residents and families in the Southern Tier to get the most for their money by buying clothes and shoes under $110 without the state sales tax,” said Giglio. “Since I began my work as your legislator in Albany, I have been supporting various tax cuts because I really believe the more money you have in your pocket the stronger our economy will be. Sales tax-free weeks encourage spending and the local economy and employment rate benefit by default.”

All clothing and shoe purchases of less than $110 are exempt from the 4 percent state sales tax during the week. Additional tax-free items include clothing material, hats, neckwear, formalwear and diapers. Counties also have the option of suspending their local sales taxes during the same week.
