Assemblyman Giglio Reacts to Cuts at Siemens in Olean

“The loss of hundreds of jobs for skilled workers in Olean is devastating to the entire community. This is the outcome we can anticipate when companies with long histories in our region, like this one started in the early 20th century, are purchased by overseas corporations – a failure of global proportions.

Not only will hundreds of employees lose their jobs or be given the heartbreaking decision to relocate their families hundreds or thousands of miles away, but the extent of damage to the community is even more crippling, harming real estate, schools, taxes, small business revenues and more. The combined effects of this decision are crippling for this community.

My heart goes out to the hundreds of employees and their families impacted by this devastating decision by Siemens. Dresser, and then Siemens, is a company that has been home to many generations of workers. This is a blow to our way of life on many levels and will continue to do so for many years. My office stands ready to help in any way we can.”
