Assemblywoman Judy Griffin Honors Karen Lipton at the Women of Distinction Event

Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (AD 21) proudly celebrated Women’s History Month on March 19 at the New York State Legislative Women’s Caucus Women of Distinction event. This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” highlighted the invaluable contributions of women across New York State.

Assemblywoman Griffin was honored to recognize Karen Lipton as the Assembly District 21 Woman of Distinction for 2025. Karen is a resilient and compassionate leader whose impact on the community is immeasurable. A devoted wife, mother of three, and grandmother, she has also built an impressive career as a Nassau County Assistant District Attorney while passionately advocating for public education, special education, and the arts. She has generously supported esteemed organizations such as Molloy University, South Shore Symphony, South Nassau Mt. Sinai Hospital, and RVC Blue Speaks.

Karen’s strength and grace were further demonstrated through her dedication to her beloved son, Adam, who suffered a permanent debilitating injury at age ten due to a tragic accident. Through the remarkable love and care of Karen and her husband, Wayne, Adam lived until age 37, inspiring all who knew them.

“I was honored to host Karen and Wayne in Albany and recognize Karen as the Women of Distinction for Assembly District 21,” said Assemblywoman Judy Griffin. “She is truly a woman of substance – graceful, compassionate, and a steadfast leader in our community. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on the lives of so many.”

Additionally, Assemblywoman Griffin congratulated Dr. Lorna Lewis, Superintendent of the Malverne School District, for being selected by Senator Siela Bynoe as the Women of Distinction for Senate District 6.
