Assemblywoman Judy Griffin Honors Outstanding Local Women at 2025 “Women of Distinction” Ceremony
Baldwin, NY – Assemblywoman Judy Griffin proudly hosted her annual Women of Distinction ceremony on Thursday, November 6th at Baldwin Middle School, recognizing a remarkable group of women whose leadership, service, and dedication have made a lasting impact in the communities of Assembly District 21 and the greater community.
This year’s honorees represented a wide array of accomplishments and backgrounds – from community advocates, authors, attorneys, business owners and nurses to entrepreneurs, educators, and PTA presidents – each contributing in meaningful ways to strengthen and uplift our communities.
“Each of these women has shown what it means to lead with purpose, compassion, kindness and inclusiveness,” said Assemblywoman Griffin. “Their determination, community involvement, and unwavering commitment to others serve as an inspiration to us all. I was both honored and humbled to recognize these powerful, dynamic, and engaging women.”
The evening included the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem performed by Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé, as well as remarks from Legislator-Elect Cynthia Núñez. Family members, friends, and community leaders gathered to celebrate the honorees’ many achievements.
Among those honored were Johane Ligondé from Baldwin, Meta Mereday from Baldwin Oaks, Cheryl Poland from East Rockaway, Maria Jordan-Awalom from Freeport, Shantay Carter from Hempstead, Karen Cordoso from Hewlett, Maria Dente-Higgins from Lynbrook, Jillian Policastro and Tracee Galante from Oceanside, Liliana Polo from Malverne, Joan Hyland and her daughters Cristine Daly and Ellen White from Rockville Centre and Malverne, Rena Riback from Rockville Centre, Stephanie Tambini from West Hempstead, Laura Mallay from South Hempstead, and Sherise Dowling from Valley Stream.
Assemblywoman Griffin’s Women of Distinction ceremony highlights local leaders who embody the values of service, leadership, and empowerment – shining a light on the everyday heroes who make a difference in their neighborhoods.
