Assemblyman Keith P. Brown (R,C-Northport) joined Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C-Riverhead), Sen. Dean Murray (R,C-3rd Senate District) and other members of the Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences on the Million Dollar Staircase in Albany today to support a proposal that will make CBD-product regulations much stricter. This proposal has emerged in response to an incident reported by a concerned parent whose child accidentally ingested a CBD-based product as a result of unclear labeling on the packaging.

As the Ranking Minority Member of the Alcohol and Drug Committee, Brown understands how crucial laws and regulations surrounding adult-use cannabis are in keeping the public safe. During the press conference, he referenced several disturbing statistics pointing out how child exposure to CBD products has risen in recent years, and he also discussed an important bill he co-sponsored prohibiting the sale, delivery or giving away of any candy-like product containing THC (A4934).

“Misleading and non-childproof packaging for CBD-based products has been an ongoing problem in New York for too long,” said Brown. “Parents should not have to worry about their children and teens confusing THC products for regular candy or gummies. Parents also should not have to worry that their toddlers might get into a bottle or package containing cannabis—even if these products are purchased legally, many of them are nowhere near childproof. The Governor and the Cannabis Control Board should address this concern immediately.”
