Brown Attends “Gabby’s Law” Press Conference

Assemblyman Keith Brown (R,C-Northport) joined his colleagues Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) and Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) at a press conference advocating for “Gabby’s Law” to establish a “Teal Alert” for missing adults including victims of domestic violence who are believed to be in danger (A.3230/S.2274). The Teal Alert system would close the gap between the Amber Alert national system for missing children and the Silver Alert for seniors and adults with mental illnesses. Missing persons falling within the Teal Alert range will have information relating to their disappearance quickly dispersed to the public for assistance.
“It’s unfortunate that it took the murder of 22-year-old Long Island native Gabby Petito to reveal the large gap we have for missing persons. The largest demographic in New York State is 18-64-year-olds and to know they aren’t protected when they are missing or experiencing domestic abuse is astonishing. There is no reason for New York not to have a missing alert system for adults that is proven to be successful at saving lives,“ said Brown.
