Townwide Fund of Huntington Puts the Fun in Fundraising

When the pandemic shut down traditional fundraising efforts, including a 60th anniversary celebration, the Townwide Fund pivoted to a series of outdoor events where the emphasis was on safe, fun networking, in the spirit of giving.

The season began with a hugely successful golf and tennis outing at the Huntington Crescent Club honoring Signature Premier Properties. It was followed with multiple fundraising events through the spring and summer at the Bay Club, Centerport Yacht Club and the Vanderbilt Museum. And there’s more fun coming.

On October 4, the Fund hosts a golf outing at the prestigious Westhampton Golf Club, a rare opportunity for non-members to enjoy this famed course. Vineyard tours and lunch are offered for non-golfers on Sunday. Special arrangements have been made at the Indigo East Hotel for guests who wish to stay overnight and enjoy the east end. Golfers are encouraged to sign up ASAP, as this is expected to sell out quickly.

Another lovely event, the second annual IPA & Rosé party, takes place at the Lloyd Harbor Seminary on September 12. An exclusive selection of rosé wines and IPAs (India Pale Ales, to the uninitiated) will be offered, along with appetizers and live music. Tours of the seminary and a visit to the rose garden add to the beauty of this event, which sold out last year. Again, tickets are limited so don’t wait to register.

And who couldn’t use a good laugh, especially this year? The Townwide Fund has partnered with the Engeman Theater to present a Comedy Night on October 19.

The Townwide Fund’s signature event, the Thanksgiving Charity Run, will take place as it has for decades, Thanksgiving morning, with families returning year after year, generation after generation, as well as serious runners. As always, there will be a Fun Run for the little ones.

While the Townwide Fund events are all about fun, the extreme need facing so many of our community members and the 30-plus local nonprofits is a serious concern. Numerous emergency grants were made in 2021 to agencies whose constituents lack food, shelter, and access to medical and mental health services. Our mission is to do everything we can to secure these basic human needs in our community.
