Gratitude And Community: A Thanksgiving Message From Assemblyman Blankenbush
Legislative Column by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C-Black River)
I always look forward to the end of November; it means there will be more time to spend home with my wife, Sheila, and I also get to see more of my amazing grandchildren. Thanksgiving is one of the few holidays that brings families around the table to reminisce about old times and values that bind us together. At its core, Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude and appreciation. It encourages us to reflect on the blessings in our lives, overall fostering a sense of humbleness and thankfulness.
Amid the challenges we faced this year, the principles of gratitude and resilience take on even greater significance. Continuing to embrace these values may generate a collective spirit of optimism and resilience as we navigate through these trying times. This is a great time to lend a hand to those in need by volunteering and donating. Thankfully, in the North Country and Mohawk Valley, we are home to incredible organizations that selflessly give back to the community throughout the year and especially during this holiday season.
Small Business Saturday is approaching this weekend, providing an excellent opportunity to explore local businesses near you. With Christmas just around the corner, shopping locally not only allows you to discover unique products and services, it also plays a crucial role in supporting your local economy. Small businesses contribute to the distinctive character and identity of neighborhoods, offering a personalized shopping experience that cannot be matched by larger corporations. The appreciation and connection you establish through purchasing from these local establishments add a special touch to your holiday shopping.
While Thanksgiving is a time for joy and connection, it’s also the number one day for home fires. It is crucial to be cautious when preparing meals and taking the utmost caution while cooking. Be sure fire and carbon dioxide alarms are functioning correctly and a fire escape plan is prepared in case of an emergency.
This holiday season, let us express gratitude not only through words but also through actions that contribute to the well-being of our communities and the world at large. I wish you and your families a happy Thanksgiving. I am always grateful to be your representative and look forward to visiting the fun events our district has to offer.
