Statement by Assemblymember Cahill Regarding the Impending Resignation of Andrew Cuomo

Albany, NY – Assemblymember Kevin A. Cahill, (D-Ulster, Dutchess) issued the following statement regarding Andrew Cuomo’s resignation as Governor of New York State:

“Governor Cuomo is finally acknowledging his solemn duty. That said, while his decision to leave office may forestall impeachment proceedings, it should not prevent the State Legislature from continuing to examine the important matters that led to widespread calls for the termination of his role as New York's chief executive. In particular, safeguards need to be put in place to end, once and for all, sexual harassment in the workplace, ensure the integrity of vital health care information and uncover the full circumstances surrounding Governor Cuomo's use of public resources for private gain.

Lt. Governor Hochul will require the full support of the Legislature and the public as she assumes the great responsibilities of that high office. While congratulations may not be in order, I am sure I join my colleagues and the people of the communities I am honored to represent in wishing her well and Godspeed.”
