Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,SAM,ROS-Mahopac) will host his annual Shed The Meds on Thursday, June 16 between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Yorktown Police Department. Byrne will be partnering with the Town of Yorktown, the Yorktown Police Department, Drug Crisis in Our Backyard and Alliance for Safe Kids.
This event will offer constituents a safe location to dispose of old and unused medications to prevent them from ending up in our waters and to keep them away from young children.
“I am proud to partner with some many wonderful organizations in Yorktown to help our community,” said Byrne. It is important that we properly dispose of unwanted or unused medication to prevent damage to our families or our environment,” said Byrne. “Flushing medicine down the toilet can lead to pollution in our water supply, and failure to dispose of unused medication can be dangerous.
Medications should be brought in a clear plastic bag. Acceptable items are prescriptions, prescription medications, prescription patches, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, samples and medication for pets. Items that are not accepted are needles, medication from businesses or clinics, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, aerosol cans, ointments, lotions or liquids.
