Byrne Celebrates Summer Reading Challenge with Local Students

Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,SAM,ROS-Mahopac) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of his 2021 Summer Reading Challenge. Over twenty-five students from both Westchester and Putnam Counties took part in the program, which requires children to read for at least 15 minutes every day for forty days during the summer to continue developing their literacy skills. The New York State Education Department’s Division of Library Development provides a suggested reading list at www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/summer/explore.htm

“We are blessed every year to have a lot of participation from our young people in our annual Summer Reading Challenge. It was a pleasure to celebrate with this year’s participants and their families in-person to recognize them for their summer reading,” said Byrne. “Reading during the summer months is critical for our young people’s learning development. This program works to inspire the younger generation and to get them excited about reading. Again, congratulations to all our participants. I thank the numerous libraries and school districts for their support of this program, and I look forward to holding this event again next year.”

Byrne held a pizza party with the students who completed the challenge on September 21st and presented them with certificates recognizing their achievement. The event was held at the Reed Memorial Library in Carmel.
