Lalor Asks Wappingers School Board To Allow More Public Comments On Common Core

Fishkill, NY – Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I-Fishkill) has written to the president of the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education requesting that the board continue and expand the public comment portion of its board meetings. Lalor's letter comes after overwhelming public response to Common Core at several Wappingers Board of Education meetings.

"Parents, teachers and taxpayers are all troubled by what Common Core is doing to our schools," said Lalor. "Many have been moved to speak out against Common Core. They all deserve the chance to be heard by public officials, including the Wappingers Board of Education. The board should expand the public comment portion of meetings to accommodate all who want to be heard."

Lalor added, "Parents and taxpayers deserve the opportunity to voice their opinions. As public officials, we do not and should not get to pick and choose what we want to hear from the public. Part of our job is listening to the public. A public official may disagree with a particular viewpoint, but that viewpoint still deserves to be heard."
