What Does Cuomo Say About Tax Dollars for The Met and Pro-Terror Opera?

East Fishkill, NY - (10/22/14) - Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - East Fishkill) is asking Governor Cuomo to pledge to end state subsidies for the Metropolitan Opera after its production of the virulently anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist The Death of Klinghoffer opera.

"The Metropolitan Opera has received hundreds of thousands from taxpayers through state grants," said Lalor. "Does Governor Cuomo believe the taxpayer support should continue after the Met production of anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist propaganda? The Met has the right to stage the opera, but it shouldn't expect taxpayers to help foot the bill with state grants. This should be a simple question for the governor. Is it right for taxpayers to subsidize a production many believe is pro-terrorist? This isn't about the First Amendment. It isn't censorship. It's simply saying that New Yorkers don't want their tax dollars funding something so repugnant. What do you say, Governor? Should tax dollars go to support an anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist production?"

"Governor Cuomo's predecessor, former governor and current New York State Majority Party Chairman David Paterson, protested the opera. Why is Governor Cuomo silent on tax dollars funding this garbage?"

The Death of Klinghoffer romanticizes the Palestinian terrorists who murdered the 69-year-old, wheelchair-bound American tourist Leon Klinghoffer because he was Jewish.
