No More Tax Dollars For Metropolitan Opera's Anti-Semitic, Pro-Terror Propoganda

East Fishkill, NY - (10/20/14) - Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - East Fishkill) is calling on his fellow New York State legislators to pledge to end state subsidies for the Metropolitan Opera after its production of the virulently anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist Death of Klinghoffer opera.

"The Metropolitan Opera might have a right to put whatever trash it wants on stage, but taxpayers shouldn't have to subsidize this garbage," said Lalor. "New Yorkers with a sense of moral decency are disgusted with the Met for this anti-Semitic production. They shouldn't have to watch their tax dollars go to subsidize anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist propaganda. I expect every legislator will stand with me to end all future taxpayer funding for the Met. In fact, I'm demanding the Met return the state grant it received this year. That would be the right thing to do, but clearly the people in charge there have trouble with the concept of right and wrong."

The Metropolitan Opera received a $136,200 grant from New York State taxpayers this year, through the New York State Council on the Arts. The Met has received hundreds of thousands in tax dollars over the years.

The Death of Klinghoffer romanticizes the Palestinian terrorists who murdered the 69-year-old, wheelchair-bound American tourist Leon Klinghoffer because he was Jewish. The opera attempts to find excuses for the murder and includes anti-Semitic lyrics.

Lalor continued, "There's no way the Met should receive another dime from taxpayers. This opera's anti-Semitism shouldn't be supported with our tax dollars. Not one legislator should support funding for the Met. The Met has every right to celebrate this disgusting show, but they have no right to use our tax dollars for it."
