“I have long called on my Majority colleagues to be profiles in courage and choose an Assembly Speaker other than scandal-plagued Sheldon Silver. The opportunity for the Assembly Majority to show political courage has now passed. With the imminent arrest of Speaker Sheldon Silver, I am merely calling on the Assembly majority to be profiles in common sense and elect a different Speaker. It is bad enough that major decisions in our state are made by three men in a room. As we start a new session and head into budget negotiations, we can’t have one of those three men in the room under federal indictment for violating the public trust.”
