Keynote Speaker Announced for Salute to WWII Vets/D-Day Event on June 6

I'm very pleased to announce our keynote speaker for the June 6th Salute to WWII Vets/D-Day Commemoration: Iraq veteran and NYPD Detective Mark Woods, Jr. The ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. at Freedom Park in the Town of LaGrange, 212 Skidmore Rd., Pleasant Valley.
Keynote Speaker NYPD Detective Mark Woods, Jr.
Detective Mark Woods, Jr. is a 1992 graduate of The Citadel Military College of South Carolina.
Mark spent five years on active duty in the U.S. Army as an Infantry officer serving in Germany and Macedonia. Upon leaving active military service, Mark served as a corrections officer in Topeka, Kansas, and a Special Agent with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in San Antonio, Texas.
Mark joined the New York City Police Department in 2000 and has served in the Patrol Services Bureau, the Intelligence Division, the Organized Crime Control Bureau, the Narcotics Division, the Vice Enforcement Division, the Human Trafficking Team, and currently is a member of the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force. As part of his responsibilities on the Joint Terrorism Task Force, Mark investigates extremist threats that are directed towards New York City and the surrounding communities.
In 2005, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mark was recalled to active military duty and sent to Iraq to serve as the commander of a Civil Affairs Team. Marks team was responsible for conducting patrols and rebuilding infrastructure throughout the northern Iraqi Province of Nineveh.
Mark is married to Jeanne Woods, a Sergeant in the New York City Police Department, and has two wonderful children, Raymond, 15, and Margaret, 5. Mark was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and currently resides in Rockland County.
