Current law has strong protections against assaults against registered nurses, LPNs, public health sanitarians, paramedics and several other professionals, but we do not specifically include doctors. So physicians like Dr. Tam, who dedicated their lives and dedicate their lives to caring for New Yorkers, are left less protected than their health care counterparts," said Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner, who authored legislation that would give physicians added protection under the law after Dr. Tracy Sin-Yee Tam was murdered in a shooting at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.
