On Sunday, Assemblywoman Buttenschon (D-C Marcy) and Senator Griffo (R-C Rome) had the honor of hosting the President of the American Irish Legislators Society of New York for a tour of the new Mohawk Valley Irish Cultural Center.

"The Mohawk Valley has deep-rooted ties to Ireland and our Irish American community has played a significant role in our region. They truly deserve our recognition," stated Assemblywoman Buttenschon. "It is with great pride that I, along with Senator Griffo, welcome President Kavanagh to Utica to tour the Mohawk Valley Irish Cultural Center and honor our Irish heritage. I urge my constituents to visit the Irish Cultural Center and discover the rich contributions of our Irish American community members.”

Last year, Assemblywoman Buttenschon secured a $125,000 State and Municipal grant for the Irish Cultural Center for maintenance and upkeep of its H.A.R.P Museum. The museum holds many artifacts that display the Mohawk Valley’s ties to Ireland.

“I was pleased to join Assemblywoman Buttenschon in welcoming members of the American Irish Legislators Society of New York to the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley this past Sunday,” said Senator Griffo. “This visit provided an opportunity for us to showcase this impressive facility, celebrate the area's rich Irish heritage, history and culture and to recognize the Irish organizations that do such great work throughout the community and region.”
