Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D-Utica/Rome) recently announced that a total of $9 million in state funding will be awarded for new housing projects in Oneida County. The funding will be provided through New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s (NYSHCR) Multifamily Finance RFP as part of the governor’s Housing and Homelessness Plan.

“As we continue to rebuild and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding our region’s affordable housing stock is more important than ever,” Buttenschon said. “This funding represents a significant investment for Mohawk Valley communities, and I’ll continue doing everything I can in the Assembly to help us recover from the unprecedented challenges of the past year.”

The $98 million award announcement includes $4.6 million for the Copper City Lofts in Rome, Oneida County, which will feature 64 apartments as well as ground floor commercial space. The development is also supported by the governor’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative to create a more walkable and vibrant downtown in the city. Johnson Park Apartments in Utica, Oneida County, will also receive $4.4 million. The scattered-site development in Utica’s Corn Hill neighborhood will offer 62 apartments, including 33 for seniors and adults in need of supportive services.
