Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia), in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture and NY FarmNet, is hosting a Women in Ag Day Conference to build and support a network of women in agriculture in and around Livingston County. The assemblywoman hopes to be able to build the event into legislative solutions to better assist or provide resources from the state for this underserved demographic.

“Women have been significant in agriculture since humankind first began sowing seeds; however, women aren’t often part of the conversation in how our state views this industry,” said Byrnes. “As agriculture is an economic engine in New York, and women are leading more in this evolving industry, it is vital that we recognize the contribution women make and offer support and resources to help them succeed.”

Byrnes said she is already getting feedback that the Livingston County event is a unique opportunity for women. She hopes it could serve as a pilot project for other farming communities across the state and will be sharing feedback with her colleagues at the state Capitol to see if there is legislation that could be drafted to address issues that may come up as a result of the event.

The assemblywoman encourages all women in farming within the 133^rd Assembly District to attend the event, which will be held on March 7 at the Livingston County Campus in Mount Morris.
