Byrnes Opposed To Single-Payer Health Care
A statement from Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) on implementing single-payer health care in New York state
Today, the Assembly Majority again pushed for single-payer health care, a proposal that would provide medical coverage to all New York state residents without regard to immigration status. While affordable health care is a priority for every resident in New York, the single-payer system is a costly Band-Aid over a broken leg. Majority state leaders are delusional to push legislation that would cost taxpayers an estimated $1,600 more a month. Taking this into account, the single-payer health care system would be a detriment to New Yorkers who are already facing high taxes. This proposal would eliminate health care options and decision-making for middle-class families and reduce the quality of care. We need to look into alternatives, such as allocating existing state resources and funding towards affordable health care so that our residents can continue to have options regarding their health.
