Byrnes Calls For Living Wages for Direct-Care Workers
Today, Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) attended a press conference in support of the #BFair2DirectCare campaign, which calls for funding of a living wage for direct-care workers. The press conference, held in Rochester at the Heritage Christian Services' Pieters Family Life Center, was one of many held throughout the state and included members of the Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York (DDAWNY) and The Collaborative of New York.
Direct-care professionals are dedicated and caring individuals who support New Yorkers with developmental disabilities and help them live safe, fulfilling lives. Despite their hard work and high demand, they still suffer from outrageously low wages, said Byrnes. I was proud to stand today with so many dedicated direct-care professionals to call for a well-deserved living wage. Its time Gov. Cuomo recognizes the hard work of these individuals and includes living wage funding in the upcoming budget.
