Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) stood up today against the Green Light Law. The Green Light Law allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses while simultaneously denying federal immigration officials access to state DMV records. The law has received backlash because of public safety concerns and lack of information available for law- enforcement officials. Byrnes attended a press conference with Congressman Tom Reed and her Minority colleagues earlier today.

“The Green Light Law is another agenda-driven piece of legislation passed by the governor and state Majority,” Byrnes commented after the press conference. “Not only does this law affect the Trusted Traveler Program, it also puts law enforcement at risk. Customs and Border Police have no information when approaching vehicles at border crossings or vessels on the water. Traffic encounters are increasingly more dangerous because of the lack of data sharing. Gov. Cuomo has chosen to protect illegal immigrants with sealed records instead of protecting our law enforcement. It is unconscionable that legislation went through that leads our law enforcement blindly into dangerous situations. I stand with Congressman Tom Reed and call for the governor to rework this legislation.”
