Simpson: Legislature Must Act On Inflation

Statement by Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C,I-Horicon)

“I was proud to join my Assembly Minority colleagues in the Capitol today to continue advocating for passage of A.8481. The ‘Inflation Relief and Consumer Assistance Plan’ would provide immediate relief to New Yorkers by slashing sales tax for two years. Inflation is an insidious and added tax on all of us; it rose by 7% in December alone, a near 40-year high.

“The negative human effects of inflation are being felt in everyone’s lives. The cable bill, the trash bill, the grocery bill, you name it and your bills are likely increasing. Our current course is unsustainable and we have this bill at the ready to counter-balance out-of-control prices.

“As our economy continues to fight back from the pandemic, we need to lower the prices on everyday goods such as fuel, groceries, housekeeping supplies and energy. In all of our districts, inflation is the top issue our constituents are talking about. The Legislature needs to act and pass A.8481 immediately.”
