Simpson Supports Tax Cuts In First Night Of Budget Votes
Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C,I-Horicon) voted in the affirmative on the revenue bill as part of the 2022-23 State Budget on Thursday night. In total, the bill provides New Yorkers with a $4.6 billion tax cut. The state budget was due last Friday, April 1.
“Tonight’s revenue bill actually provided a tax cut, rather than a new tax, on New Yorkers, which is why I voted in favor of the bill. I will work with anyone, on either side of the aisle, who is willing to provide immediate relief to New Yorkers.
“In addition to the tax cut, the Emergency Service Fee Authorization was in the bill, which will help North Country volunteer fire departments to recoup costs for EMS services—a bipartisan win.
“As budget bills continue to roll out, it is important that we remember this budget is a week late. The governor and Legislative Majorities continue to negotiate behind closed doors, leaving the rest of us in the dark, with little time to catch up to speed. In the coming budget bills, we need to see adjustments to public safety measures, especially bail reform. Supposed ‘tweaks’ to the bail law will not go far enough in addressing New York’s crime crisis,” said Simpson.
