Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) today applauded the Assembly for implementation of a livestream option for the general public to view committee meetings. In 2016, the Assembly Minority, including Simpson’s predecessor, Sen. Dan Stec, pushed for public viewing; however, until today the sessions were audio-only for the public. Simpson is serving his second term in the Assembly and agrees with his colleagues that transparency in Albany is long overdue.

“This is a major step forward,” said Simpson. “Since taking office, I have always advocated for more transparency from Albany legislators– now the public can fully view our committee meetings and our constituents can be present, viewing right alongside us. It has been nearly seven years in the making but I am glad we took one step forward today.”

The committee meetings will be offered on the Assembly website for livestream, however, the videos will not be archived for later viewing.

“Until these meetings are archived, allowing the public to view them at any time, we still have some work to do. My colleagues and I in the Assembly Minority will continue to advocate for honest, open governance,” Simpson concluded.
