Simpson Sponsors Bill to Provide Parents with Access to School Bus Security Cameras
Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) sponsored legislation this year that will give parents and guardians access to video and photo documentation in the unfortunate event of an incident on a school bus that leads to injury or harm to a child (A. 3169). Additionally, yesterday, at the Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Elementary & Secondary Education, Jacobe’s Law (A.2231) was discussed as it requires school administrators to contact the parents or guardians of students when bullying or harassment occurs. Simpson’s bill adds to this attempt to suppress school bullying and harassment. Both bills were referred to the Assembly Education Committee before reaching the Assembly floor to be voted on.
“As a parent, I would want to know if my children were victims of bullying on a school bus where there is such limited supervision. The safety of children and school bus drivers is a top concern for school administrators and my bill makes it easier to properly investigate any inappropriate behavior. If we create a safe learning environment for children it sets them up for success later in life,” said Simpson.
