Today, Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) expresses sadness at the passing of his good friend and Lake George Town Supervisor Dennis Dickinson. As a Lake George native and business owner, Dickinson embodied the spirit of his beloved community. A graduate of Lake George High School and a two-time town supervisor, Dickinson tirelessly championed initiatives aimed at preserving the pristine beauty of Lake George and its surrounding environment.

“Dennis fostered a great relationship with the environmental community and businesses alike,” remarked Simpson. “As a professional engineer and land surveyor with a master’s in environmental sciences, Dennis always cared deeply about lake protection.”

Under Dickinson’s leadership, Lake George saw significant strides in environmental conservation. His advocacy led to the establishment of crucial programs such as the Mandatory Boat Inspection and Decontamination Program, making Lake George home to the strongest aquatic invasive species prevention program east of the Mississippi. Additionally, his dedication to the Salt Initiative resulted in a groundbreaking reduction of road salt use, making Lake George the first municipality in North America to be certified by the Sustainable Winter Management Program.

“Dennis's commitment to Lake George was unwavering,” Simpson continued. “He understood the symbiotic relationship between environmental preservation and economic prosperity. He understood the lake was the greatest asset. You damage the lake, and you damage the community and economy alike. You have to take care of the lake.”

In addition to his environmental efforts, Dickinson was fiscally conservative, leaving the town with no debt. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to safeguard the natural treasures of Lake George.
