Norris: A Season Of Thanks Before Us!
A Legislative Column from Assemblyman Mike Norris (R, C- Lockport)
I have been working hard to align Albany’s focus with that of Western New York, and that means getting back to basics. In fact, on day one when Gov. Hochul first took office, I sent her a letter with my “Back to Basics” plan and urged her to take action so that we stop the inflated state spending driving up costs for residents and businesses alike and make smart investments in infrastructure to spur job creation, ensure public safety, and revitalize local economies.
For me, that’s what it’s all about. Keeping families together, building strong communities, and supporting the hard work that New Yorkers are already doing. Government can help lift people up and ensure our services are met, but we cannot regulate every aspect of people’s lives. We must get back to the basics of how our government functions, reduce the spending that drives up taxes and fees, and enable New Yorkers to pursue the American Dream they’re working so hard for. It’s achievable if Albany can come together.
As Western New Yorkers, we have the privilege of living in some of the best communities around. I am proud to represent this region, but never prouder than when our community rallies together to support our neighbors, such as with our Annual Winter Clothing Drive. Children’s boots are in high demand, but you can also donate new or gently used coats, scarves, hats, mittens/gloves, sweaters and vests from Nov. 21 until Dec. 19 at my office (8180 Main Street) or the Clarence Town Hall (1 Town Place), as well as other locations around the district.
I am always so thankful for the generosity our community shows during this drive, and I am sure this year will be no exception. As we gather with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, we have much to give thanks for. This year, I will be giving thanks for the opportunity to serve you among my blessings. It is one of the biggest honors of my life. Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving!
