Norris: State Assembly Passes Caves Attractions Oversight Bill

Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) announced the state Assembly today passed a bill (A.10399) that will require the annual inspection of any vessel operated on privately or publicly owned underground non-navigable waterways. Norris worked together with Sen. Rob Ortt and their colleagues across the aisle to pass the legislation in order to ensure attractions such as the one in the Lockport Cave are properly inspected.

“Proper oversight of these rides has been a top priority of mine during this legislative session to protect both the patrons who wish to partake in these unique attractions and business operators going forward,” said Norris. “I am pleased there was bipartisan agreement of the final bill’s language submitted by the governor and that the bill will be sent to the governor for her signature. I am confident this legislation addresses an apparent loophole in current law and provides the clear authority and responsibility for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to inspect these tourist attractions annually.”
