Norris Rallies for Increase in Funding for Local Roads & Bridges
Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,I-Lockport) joined highway superintendents from across the state at a rally today at the State Capitol in support of increased funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) in this year’s state budget.
“Too often the governor has neglected western New York’s infrastructure projects, without which our regional economy will never fully rebound. We need and deserve the funding necessary to fix our roads and bridges, and keep them safe. Both for residents, but also to encourage commerce and create jobs,” said Norris. “Driving is a way of life in our district, and we deserve safe roads and the funding to keep them in good repair.”
The governor’s proposed budget does not increase funding for CHIPS. Norris and his colleagues are hoping for an increase of at least $150 million for upstate and western New York communities in the final state budget.
