Norris Signed Up To Donate Life. Won’t You?
As part of National Donate Life Month, Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,I-Lockport) signed up to become an organ donor and is encouraging all New Yorkers to sign up to become organ donors as well. The assemblyman was a sponsor of a legislative resolution that passed in the Assembly today to raise awareness for organ donation, and the need of nearly 10,000 New Yorkers who are waiting for life-saving organs.
“There is no greater gift than organ donation. Here in New York we have a dire need for more donors on the registry,” said Norris. “I am proud to be an organ donor and hope more New Yorkers will join me.”
Nearly 51 percent of Americans are currently signed up to be organ donors, but New York State is falling behind with only 24 percent of New Yorkers registered. Eight lives can be saved by one donor, with an additional 50 people benefitting if the donor also chooses to donate tissue and corneas.
Norris encourages residents to take a few moments to sign up online at the state Department of Motor Vehicles website.
