Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,I-Lockport) announced the passage in the state Assembly this week of legislation that would expedite ride-sharing throughout the state in time for Independence Day. The measure has now passed both houses, and is being sent to the governor to be signed into law.

“Ride-sharing is another example of how Albany can come together in a bipartisan way to accomplish results for our constituents. I am proud to have been a sponsor on this bill and one of the early promoters of ride-sharing for upstate and Western New York,” said Norris. “I would also like to thank all of the constituents who stood with me on ride-sharing and signed my petition. I will continue working to make the priorities of our region heard in the Assembly chamber.”

While legislation was included in the 2017-18 State Budget to allow ride-sharing statewide, the measure would not have taken affect until mid-July. Legislators in both houses came together to correct the enacting date so that more New Yorkers could use ride-sharing over the Fourth of July holiday, not only to increase transportation options for the public, but also to help curb drunk driving, ease traffic and parking congestion at community events and support local businesses.
