Norris Supports 14-Day Sick Leave for All To Reduce Spread of Coronavirus

A Statement from Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C,I,Ref-Lockport)

“There is nothing more important than public safety, however in this unprecedented time many New Yorkers are torn between worrying about their health and the potential impact the coronavirus will have on their ability to keep their jobs. No one should have to have that worry during this global pandemic and that’s why I have been here at the state Capitol to pass an emergency 14-day sick leave policy for all New Yorkers should they need to self-isolate or go into quarantine due to coronavirus-related concerns.

“This week my colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference and I also introduced legislation to protect our state’s small businesses by introducing the Small Business Emergency Recovery Act of 2020. Our plan would funnel $890 million in existing state resources into immediate relief for New York’s small employers, delay taxes and fees for 180 days, and offer zero percent loans to small businesses to ensure they can continue to make payroll.

“Additionally, as this virus continues to spread across our state and throughout the 144th Assembly District, I know constituents are becoming increasingly worried. We are all in this together and I strongly encourage you to take every precaution, including limiting any unnecessary travel outside of your home. I have no doubt that though we may face challenging times ahead, ultimately, our community will be even stronger. Please stay updated on information by following your local county health departments or call the state’s Novel Coronavirus Hotline 24/7 at 1-888-364-3065 or find information on their website at https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home.”
