Assemblyman Michael A. Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) today spoke at a press conference calling for immediate action to repeal the MTA payroll tax before the end of the current legislative session. Joined by several of his Assembly colleagues, Assemblyman Montesano highlighted the importance of the MTA payroll taxs repeal to small businesses, private and parochial schools, and non-profits in Long Island.
The MTA is notorious for its mismanagement and wasteful use of taxpayer dollars, said Montesano. The MTA is making cuts to jobs and services, yet increasing fares on Long Islands commuters. This tax also is forcing small businesses to close. Jobs are essential to economic growth, and repealing the MTA payroll tax will be the first step to putting New York back on a fiscally responsible path. I implore my colleagues to bring this initiative to the floor for a fair, up-or-down vote.
