Montesano Pushes to Remove Disaster Emergency Declaration

Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I,LBT-Glen Head) joined his Assembly and Senate colleagues for a press conference Monday, June 7, calling for the termination of the disaster emergency status that is still declared in New York. Both the Assembly Minority and Senate Minority plan to introduce resolutions to do so.

“It is high time we regain a sense of normalcy here in New York,” said Montesano. “With COVID-19 numbers dropping, we now have the lowest average positivity rate in the nation. Here on Long Island, the number of positive test results for a seven-day average is .4 percent and for 14-day average it’s .5 percent. It’s time to terminate the disaster emergency declaration, take away Gov. Cuomo’s long abused powers and move forward. For far too long has the governor’s power gone unchecked, with his confused leadership only creating more difficulties for New Yorkers. It’s been 15 months of this and, as representatives of the good people of New York, we must look to the future and begin the process of restoring our state.”
