Assemblyman Perry Urges Local Businesses to Participate in NY Youth Works Program

Innovative program encourages businesses to hire unemployed, disadvantaged youth

The New York Youth Works program encourages businesses to hire unemployed, disadvantaged youth. The program will support job training and employment for eligible youth ages 16 to 24. The NY Youth Works Program has three elements:

  1. For Businesses – Businesses can earn tax credits of up to $4,000 for hiring eligible youth between January 1, 2012 and July 1, 2012. A business must be certified to participate in the program.
  2. For Youth – The program allows youth to be hired in the eligible communities and to receive stipends for certain expenses.
  3. For Placement/Training Providers – Competitive applications to provide recruitment, training and placement services to certified youth will be available soon. Funds will be awarded to community-based organizations, Local Workforce Investment Boards and other training providers.

Youth seeking to participate may complete their application online or by mail as well. Applications must be received by June 30, 2012. Once approved, youth participants may find a job with a certified business by contacting a NY Works Training Provider, of by checking the NYS Job Bank for openings.
