Statement by Assemblymember Hunter on the Mass Shooting in Buffalo

“New Yorkers across the State are praying for the Buffalo community in the wake of Saturday’s horrific and racist mass shooting. My heart is with the victims, their families, and the people of Buffalo. I am grateful for the bravery of members of law enforcement and other first responders that rushed to the scene to try to protect and save lives.

“While authorities continue to investigate this monstrous attack, let me be very clear: any act of hatred, including an act perpetrated in the name of a repugnant white nationalist ideology, goes against everything we stand for in New York and has no place in America. African Americans, Asian Americans, Muslim Americans, Jewish Americans, and LGBTQ+ Americans should not have to fear for their safety when they go to a grocery store. We must do more as a state and a nation to end these despicable acts of hatred.
