Assemblywoman Sandy Galef is joined by Linda Puglisi, Supervisor of the Town of Cortlandt, and John Donahue of the Peekskill American Legion Post 274 and Coordinator of the local Heroes to Hometown program on her latest episode of “Speak Out with Sandy Galef.” This episode of Speak Out focuses on returning veterans and the need for the whole community to come together to help them reintegrate into civilian life. Donahue describes how Heroes to Hometown is bringing together older overlapping programs to make them more effective. He then explains how this new approach involves the whole community including clergy, seniors, youth groups, professionals, businesses, civic groups, and individual citizens in a long term effort to help the veterans and their families get back to normal life. Puglisi explains the potential role the FDR Veterans Hospital in Montrose can play in the coming years and what the town is doing to see that it stays open. Many more veterans are returning home from recent wars, often with more serious injuries than in the past and in a difficult economic climate. Galef joins the others in saying, “These men and women have served us all and we owe them whatever help they need to take up civilian life again. It is exciting and heartwarming to see what opportunities for participation this Heroes to Hometown program is opening up” Tune in to cable television on the following days and times to learn more.
