Assemblywoman Sandy Galef Features Sean Eldridge and Protect our Democracy on Her Newest TV Episode of “Speak Out”

Group advocates for campaign finance reform to level the playing field

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef is joined by Sean Eldridge of Garrison, founder of the organization Protect our Democracy, to discuss campaign finance reform in New York on her latest episode of her cable TV show, “Speak Out with Sandy Galef.” This “Speak Out” focuses on how Protect our Democracy is working to change the campaign process to get special interest money out of elections, open up the election process to many more candidates, and have fairer campaigns in which the public can participate. To deal with limiting campaign contributions, Eldridge explains that Protect Our Democracy is committed to engaging everyone in the election process by working to lower contribution limits, having small-dollar matching funds, and increasing transparency and enforcement. Eldridge discusses how the New York campaign system differs from other states and how Protect our Democracy is working to change that. He also describes how the financial support of a candidate can greatly affect the decisions they make both on the campaign trail and, if they get elected, once they hold office. “The issue of campaign financing is vital to the future of our democracy,” said Galef. “I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to speak with Sean about this important new organization he founded which tackles this critical issue. Sean and this organization are doing great work and I hope people take the time to learn more about Protect Our Democracy on my “Speak Out” show, so they can better understand the deep implications that campaign finance reform can have on the democratic process and get involved,” concluded Galef.
