Assemblywoman Galef’s “Speak Out” Television Show Features Child Trafficking in New York State

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef was joined by Alison Boak to discuss human and child trafficking in New York State on her latest episode of “Speak Out with Sandy Galef.” Ms. Boak explains the surprising extent of child and human trafficking in New York, what it looks like and how it tends to be organized. She speaks about the difficulty that police have in identifying behavior that is often private, potentially embarrassing, and harmful to friends and personal relationships. She goes on to talk about the important role the public can play in protecting young lives if they are made aware of the signs of suspicious behavior and do not turn their backs when they see it. Ms. Boak describes that her own deep commitment to this issue started twenty years ago while a member of the Peace Corps and how that experience led her eventually to becoming the Co-Founder and President of International Organization for Adolescents. She makes clear that while it has been helpful for the public discussion to move from seeing youngsters as victims rather than as criminals, the complex psychological and economic pressures that drive human trafficking are still with us. “I am so grateful that Ali Boak was able to join me on my show to shine a light on behavior that is often hidden but always devastating to the victims,” said Assemblywoman Sandy Galef. “She educates us all about what may be happening in our backyards.” Tune in to cable television on the following days and times to learn more.
