Assemblywoman Galef Interviews Matthew Gullotta and Dana Levenberg on Helping Neighbors in Our Community for Her “Dear Sandy” TV Show

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef with Dan Montez, Founder and Director of the Taconic Opera Company.

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef interviews Matthew Gullotta, founder and President of Gullotta House, and Dana Levenberg, co-founder, board member, and immediate past president of the Ossining Micro Fund on her television show Dear Sandy. The interview called “Helping Neighbors in our Community” tells the story of how they both got started, who they help, and what they do. Gullotta was inspired by the community help he received when his house burned down in the 70‘s and his family lost everything and then more recently when unexpected medical costs wiped them out. An intensely gregarious empathetic man, he founded his organization to raise money to help people in crisis no matter what their means. Dana Levenberg’s group, the Ossining Micro Fund, gives small interest free loans at critical moments in people’s lives for one time obstacles when a small loan makes all the difference. She explains how her group vets people carefully, offers help in how to create budgets and make financial decisions, requires small regular paybacks, and has a great repayment record. Both Gulotta and Levinson describe the satisfying moments when they have been able to give neighbors a helping hand, and when that has made a huge difference in their lives. “The Gullotta House and the Ossining Micro Fund are a growing source of inspiration to us all,” says Galef. “They fill in the gaps in the community’s safety net at a time when many cannot create a big cushion to protect against the unexpected. It shows how an individual can make a huge difference in the community.” To learn more, tune in to cable television at the following dates and times.
