‘The Gray Area’ Discusses Skyrocketing State Debt
Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) is releasing the latest episode of ‘The Gray Area’ video series. In this week’s episode, Gray discusses the debt service budget bill, the first of ten budget bills to be deliberated. The debt service bill was passed, and with nine more budget bills to negotiate, projections for New York state debt indicate an adverse effect on taxpayers.
“Earlier this week, the debt service budget bill was passed, which places a higher burden on taxpayers. With this being the first budget bill deliberated so far, we can assume higher state debt is on the horizon, meaning higher taxes for our citizens. Just as we would not want increased mortgage, auto and credit card debt, increased debt for the state is not ideal. Additionally, with bail reform and housing bills holding up the remainder of the budget, we will be discussing the ongoing developments on The Gray Area next week,” Gray said.
“Also this week, it was a pleasure to see upstate, rural New York represented at the Capitol with different exhibits showcasing the lifestyle and hard work upstate New Yorkers do for our state.
“The budget has yet to be finalized, so look out next week for an update. As always, I look forward to seeing you in Albany and back in the district. Don’t hesitate to call my office staff with questions, comments or concerns–it is our privilege to serve you,” Gray concluded.
