Gray Outlines Some of His 2026 Legislative Priorities: Energy, Education, and Health Care in ‘The Gray Area’
As the 2026 Legislative Session begins in Albany, Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) is outlining his agenda centered on the fundamental needs of the 116th Assembly District. In his first “Gray Area” update of the year, Gray reaffirmed his commitment to a singular guiding principle: “What is in it for the people of the 116th Assembly District?”
“Every vote I cast, and every decision I make, comes down to how it impacts the families and businesses right here at home,” said Gray. “We are facing real challenges regarding the cost of living and the stability of our essential services, and my office is prepared to tackle those head-on this year.”
Securing Affordable and Reliable Energy
Addressing rising utility bills is a top priority for Gray. He noted that energy costs are not an “abstract issue” but a kitchen table issue for residents.
Gray’s 2026 agenda includes investigating the root causes of recent rate increases to provide relief to taxpayers; advocating for advanced nuclear energy technology as a safe, reliable way to power local industry and create high-paying jobs; and continuing support for Project Janus at Fort Drum to ensure the region remains at the forefront of energy innovation and military readiness.
Education as Workforce Development
Assemblymember Gray remains focused on ensuring the North Country’s education system directly leads to strong career paths. He pledged to continue his support for BOCES, SUNY institutions and community colleges. “Education is workforce development,” Gray stated, emphasizing the need for clear pathways that allow students to transition seamlessly into the local economy.
Stabilizing Health Care Access
With several health care institutions facing instability, Gray is prioritizing a deep look into the factors creating these crises. His focus will be on preserving local access to care and ensuring North Country hospitals have a stable foundation to serve the community.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve you both in the district and in Albany,” Gray concluded. “If there is anything my office can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out.”
