Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato Hosts Narcan Overdose Training

South Queens, NY Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) will be hosting a Narcan overdose and drug prevention training on Monday, October 3 at the American Legion Post 1404 in Broad Channel. The Assemblywoman, who has hosted this event in years past, is bringing the heavily sought-out training with Dynamic Youth Community Inc. to the 23rd Assembly District for free.

Narcan is the antidote that reverses the side effects of an opioid overdose. Throughout the session, individuals are given the knowledge and guidance that can help save lives. With this training, one will learn how to administer Narcan and the follow-up stages after an overdose.

“It’s incredibly important that we understand that overdoses can happen to anyone. I’m proud to continue to work with the State as we take tremendous steps to fund drug assistance programs and provide treatment for opioid use. It is also critical that we ensure all of us have the knowledge and tools at our disposal to stop an overdose in the process. This training gives people the tools to literally save a life and I’m happy to bring this and so many other ongoing resources to the people of South Queens,” said Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato.

The Assemblywoman has had an active role as a legislator in funding programs, both at a State and City level that assist in combatting drug and opioid dependence and overdose. In a previous budget that Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato worked on, over $30 million was allocated to a fund to support treatment and prevention of opioid use. In addition, $5.4 million was earmarked for NYC and substance abuse prevention. Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato has also been a leading co-sponsor on numerous pieces of legislation that have been tasked with combatting fentanyl use, and ensuring that even synthetic forms of drugs like fentanyl are illegal.
