Abinanti Joins Call for Federal Aid to State & Local Governments for COVID-19

Today Assemblyman Tom Abinanti joined Speaker Carl Heastie and other Assembly Majority members in calling on the New York Congressional Delegation to press for unrestricted aid to state and local governments who are facing significant budget deficits due to the impacts of COVID-19.

"Our communities are already suffering because of this pandemic and the required response," said Assemblyman Abinanti. "We need as much help as possible to prevent further damage to our schools, vital services, and vulnerable people."

The Governor's revised financial plan, released today, proposes $10 billion in across-the-board cuts to the austere enacted '20-'21 State budget. It proposes 20-30% local assistance cuts - to Medicaid, education, property tax relief, and more. Additionally, this plan cuts 10% of the funding for the state workforce - which means fewer people maintaining roads, and fewer individuals who can process unemployment claims.
