Wishing You and Yours A Merry Christmas and Joyous Holiday Season

Column from Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

On Christmas weekend and throughout the holiday season, countless celebrations will take place and long-standing traditions will be enjoyed. As we gather with friends and family to celebrate the holidays, I wish you all a season of peace, giving and hope.

This is a festive time of year, but one that can certainly feel overwhelming. Anyone facing challenges should know that our community offers assistance in a number of different ways. I am repeatedly reminded of the acts of kindness and compassion of those in my district and beyond.

Recently, I participated in two extraordinary community-based efforts to give back and help those in need – this year’s “Stockings for Veterans” drive collected more than 100 stockings filled with personal-care items that were donated to the Syracuse VA Medical Center and the “Tithe My Shoes” drive collected more than 1,400 pairs of shoes and boots thanks to the support of residents, local organizations and leaders throughout Oswego County. These acts of generosity are the embodiment of the holiday spirit.

Perhaps your family takes part in midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, enjoys free skating events in Oswego or Sandy Creek, drives around your neighborhood to marvel at the brightly-lit homes or drops off a box of non-perishable goods to your local food pantry. No matter how you choose to celebrate this season, please do so safely.

While 2022 is nearing the end and we look toward ushering in a new year, on behalf of my family and colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference, I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season.
