Barclay Promotes ‘511NY’ for Safe Summer Travel

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,-Pulaski) today encouraged summer travelers to use 511NY, a free service offered by the New York State Department of Transportation. 511NY offers information on transportation services and conditions throughout the Empire State, including emergency alerts about major transportation problems, traffic conditions, work zones and construction reports, weather conditions and forecasts.

511NY features an interactive voice system reachable by a landline or cellular phone and operates by a user’s voice or the phone’s key pad. A personalized version of 511NY also is available; those with a TransAlert subscription service are provided with notifications of major incidents and can customize alerts by county.

“511NY is a user-friendly and innovative service that can take some of the hassle out of summer travel,” said Barclay. “I encourage travelers to call today if you plan to travel out of town. It can save time and frustration.”

511NY also has an extensive website that offers applications for smart phones. For information on 511NY, please visit www.511ny.org.
