Assemblywoman
Ann-Margaret Carrozza:

A strong advocate for education

"A better tommorrow
starts today"

"Perhaps our greatest resource – the key to a prosperous future for New York – is in our classrooms. We’ll one day look to our children to drive our workforce and make the crucial decisions that will shape our society, the economy and our way of life. The last thing we can afford to do is to allow the bearers of our future to languish in overcrowded, under-funded, under-equipped classrooms."

– Ann-Margaret Carrozza

Fighting for the best for our children

Assemblywoman Carrozza has consistently fought for funding for our schools. This year, the Assembly and Senate united in a bipartisan spirit to restore more than $1.1 billion of the governor’s proposed cuts to education across the state, including a $360 million restoration for New York City schools.

To ensure our children have access to a high-quality education, Assemblywoman Carrozza supported a budget that:

  • protects universal pre-K for 45,000 four-year-olds in New York City
  • preserves class size reduction and extended day programs
  • restores funding for teacher training and support
  • saves 1,900 teaching jobs in New York City alone

Supporting a fair share for New York City schools

Assemblywoman Carrozza hailed a recent ruling by the state’s highest court calling for changes to the state’s formula for allocating school funding. The ruling will help put an end to the shortchanging of New York City schools, which has caused classroom overcrowding and teacher shortages. Assemblywoman Carrozza will work to create a new funding formula that invests in successful programs like pre-K and full-day kindergarten and ensures our schools can give our children a top-notch education.

Curbing harassment in school

Children need a safe, welcoming and affirming school environment in order to concentrate on their academic and personal growth, free of harassment or discrimination. Assemblywoman Carrozza supported the Dignity for All Students Act (A.1118), which:

  • prohibits discrimination and harassment against students, administrators and staff in public schools
  • directs school districts to develop procedures which create a school environment free of discrimination and harassment
  • establishes guidelines for the training of school personnel
